      • How much do you pay for an out-of-network provider?

How do I get started with therapy?

Treatment begins with an Initial Comprehensive Evaluation (1.5 hours) during which you and Dr. Gallahue will discuss your presenting concerns and relevant personal history. By the end of the session, Dr. Gallahue will be able to offer you some first impressions of what your work with her may include if you decide to continue therapy.

The initial evaluation also gives you an opportunity to ask questions and evaluate whether you feel comfortable working with Dr. Gallahue and are confident in her ability to meet your psychotherapy needs.

What is my role in therapy?

It is important that you take an active role in your therapy process. Therapy is only effective if you understand your part and take charge.

Setting goals for therapy is accepting responsibility for your life and taking active steps toward living the life you want to live. Dr. Gallahue will collaborate with you in identifying treatment goals and creating an individual treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs and resources. You will play an active part in developing and reaching these goals.

      What are common therapy goals?

Changing Behaviors: Everyone engages in behaviors that they'd like to change. Changing behaviors requires determination and practice. Goal setting in therapy can help you stay on track with small, measurable objectives. Whether you want to quit bad habits (like smoking), or foster new, healthy behaviors (like exercising more frequently), Dr. Gallahue can help you reach these goals.

Establishing & Maintaining Healthy Relationships: Relationships are the building blocks of community. If you find it difficult to make friends or sustain professional relationships, Dr. Gallahue can help you develop actionable goals to grow in this area of your life.

Enhancing Coping Ability: Whether you struggle with anxiety or are faced with an unexpected loss, the ability to cope and deal with difficult experiences is crucial. Everyone has coping mechanisms. Some are more adaptive than others. Dr. Gallahue can help you identify those strategies that are ineffective/ not serving their purpose and replace them with more effective ones.

Facilitating Decision Making: Fear of making the wrong choice leaves many people incapacitated and in an unhealthy state of limbo. Dr. Gallahue can help you discover ways to become more decisive so that you can take charge of your life.

Personal Development & Growth: Personal development is a lifelong process. During therapy sessions, Dr. Gallahue can help you work towards realizing and maximizing your inherent potential. Your personal development could be working to improve communication, problem solving, adaptability, or self-confidence.

      How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy depends on a number of factors. Some people may benefit from a short course of treatment (8-12 sessions) for a specific problem. Others may prefer longer-term therapy for complex issues or multiple problems. You and Dr. Gallahue will discuss the course and length of treatment in your initial session and will re-evaluate your needs periodically.

      Is my information private?

The laws governing confidentiality can be quite complex. In general, the privacy of all communication between a patient and psychologist is protected by law and Dr. Gallahue can only release information to others with your written permission. This means she will share no information about you, the fact that you are her client, or any of your treatment records without written consent from you. For this reason, you should feel comfortable being open and honest in your sessions, as no one wil learn of this information without your expressed permission. There are a few EXCEPTIONS to client confidentiality. For more information, you can review Dr. Gallahue's Client Services Agreement & Informed Consent which can be found under the Downloads Tab.

      How is my record kept?

The laws and standards governing psychologists require the keeping of treatment records. Dr. Gallahue follows strict HIPAA guidelines to assure privacy of your records.

      What do my records contain?

Your records contain your presenting problem and diagnosis, your treatment and progress in treatment, dates of and fees for sessions, as well as clinical notes describing each therapy session.

Can I get a copy of my record?

You are entitled to receive a copy of your record or a treatment summary upon written, signed request. A copy of the Record Request Form can be found under the Downloads Tab.

Because these are professional records, they can sometimes be misinterpreted or upsetting to untrained readers. Thus, if you wish to see your records, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment with Dr. Gallahue for record review. This will give you and her a chance to discuss the contents of your record and address any questions you may have.

Can my records be released to a third party?

If you wish to share your record with others, Dr. Gallahue will need to secure written authorization from you. A Release of Information (ROI) Form can be found under the Downloads Tab.

Can I add Dr. Gallahue on Social Media?

You may add CA Psychology on social media. However, Dr. Gallahue does not accept personal friend or contact requests from current or former clients on any social media or networking sites (e.g., facebook, instagram, linkedin, twitter, etc.). Adding clients as friends or contacts on these sites can compromise your confidentiality and your and her respective privacy. It may also blur the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship.
