PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY (PCIT)
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based, short-term treatment that helps young children with disruptive behavior develop self-regulation and frustration tolerance. Dr. Gallahue works closely with each parent or caregiver to deepen their relationship with their child — building the confidence and skills to guide behavior, set clear limits, and bring more warmth and calm to everyday interactions. PCIT treats the caregiver, the child, and most importantly, the relationship between them. Families change one interaction at a time.
PCIT treatment has two phases:
Child-Directed Interaction (CDI) & Parent-Directed Interaction (PDI).
| CDI Phase |
PDI Phase |
Dr. Gallahue coaches caregivers to become powerful, positive influences in their child's life. You'll learn to use your attention strategically — reinforcing the behaviors you want to see more of, and calmly withdrawing attention from minor misbehaviors to reduce them. Once these skills feel natural, you'll move into the PDI phase.
|
Building on the foundation of CDI, the PDI phase teaches children to follow directions and manage frustration more effectively. Dr. Gallahue begins with structured practice at home and gradually helps parents extend these gains to other settings — providing live coaching every step of the way so that every session is a genuine success.
